A lifelong love of piano

I offer lessons to adult beginners and more advanced improvers.

Students will play on my beautiful Steinway grand piano. Current pupils say that I am friendly and approachable. I am committed to making lessons fun and rewarding.

Prior to your first lesson, we will discuss your starting point and what you want to achieve. I will support you in your goals, and your preferred pace of learning. I will prepare you for exams if you wish, but there is no pressure to do exams if you prefer not to.

About Me

I started playing the piano when I was seven and worked my way through the Associated Board grades to Grade 8. I began working for a diploma after university, but although life and children deflected me from my piano studies, I never stopped playing the piano. nineteen years ago, I decided to go back to having lessons, and in 2015 achieved my ambition and passed the ATCL diploma with distinction.

Playing the piano continues to be a great source of pleasure and personal satisfaction.

Recommendations

'Ever since I was little I wanted to play the piano. Now I am over 50, and Alison has helped me take the first steps to achieving my goal. Alison is a skilled musician and a marvellous pianist herself so she knows just how to give feedback that helps me to improve. My lessons are fun and Alison selects pieces for music that are challenging but still achievable.
Playing her beautiful grand piano Rosie is a real treat and makes me feel like a real pianist'.

'I have had piano lessons with Alison since July 2020, and she is a great piano teacher. She is patient and kind and gears the lesson up to your needs and what you want to get out of them. She is also great at sharing information that she comes across that she thinks will help with your playing. Alison is encouraging and really knows her stuff, and I am grateful that she helps me fit in my lessons around my busy lifestyle.'

'Alison has been teaching me piano and music theory since 2017 when I retired and was looking for a new challenge and to fulfil a life long ambition. Alison prepared me for my grade 1 exam, which I passed with Distinction. I am currently working towards Grade 3 piano and Grade 5 theory. Alison is very patient and good at explaining and demonstrating everything carefully. She has taught me how to pratise efficiently. She sets a high standard and is quick to praise when I play well.

For the past few months we have been having weekly online lessons which have worked very well.'
